Lake Arcola appears

It rained most of Tuesday. In the late afternoon, a neighbour came to the door and commented on our moat. By Wednesday morning, the rain had slowed to a drizzle. We'd had a total of 1.9 inches, and more runoff than we did from the spring thaw. I took this photo yesterday, from my usual spot on the 604, looking west into the middle of town.

Well, property values just went up, huh? You've got yourself some lakefront property!

Hehehe - maybe not the property values, but certainly the optimism. I remember one year, the annual town-wide garage sale in early June was "flooded" with jovial customers, because just as seeding was wrapping up, we'd had an inch of rain - a "million-dollar rain," someone called it. This rain just sank right into the ground, though. Wednesday morning the rain tapered off, and Thursday morning I was out digging in our clay loam with no difficulty.

Oh, and unfortunately it's the bro-in-law across the street that gets the lakefront. We have "pondfront" property.
